Another day, another assassination

Samir Kassir, an anti-Syrian Lebanese journalist, has been killed by a bomb placed in his car.

It seems likely he was killed for what he believed and wrote about. This is what fundamentalism does. It kills journalists who write the "wrong" stories, it kills doctors who perform legal medical procedures, it imprisons dissident novelists in an archipelago of gulags, it imprisons, tortures, and kills people without giving them any appeal. It admits of no doubt, allows no reality check. It will lead us all into catastrophe if we let it.

Take a moment. Listen to those who disagree with you. Talk to them. Treasure those who are willing to listen, even if they still disagree. Everyone's hope resides in them alone.
